our selection of pearl river uprights
After many years wishing we had new pianos to fill our customers needs with, and just as many years of frustration at the industry's inability to produce a respectable product at a price within reach, we are pleased to be able to offer without reservation these new pianos from Pearl River. As local piano movers as well as technicians, we have for years inspected every piano we encounter- especially new ones What we seemed to find was that if a piano was not resonably expensive, it was unfailingly shabby in both construction and tone. We felt it would damage our reputations to deal in these products. We do not lie about pianos and we do not deal with junk. We could hardly attest to their quality, nor could we honestly tell a customer that this would be their best dollar spent. And so, rather than compromise our standing in the musical community, we avoided the whole prospect.
All this remained constant until about a year ago, when we came across our first Pearl Rivers in a shop some distance from our own. Like most, we had been hearing the name "Pearl River" for some time, but had never seen one. Being polite, we waited to be alone before we gave the pianos a good looking over. What we saw convinced us that the piano market had just changed for the better. These were very well made instruments, with no rough edges or glue drips to be found. Even unseen surfaces were machined smooth, without so much as a sliver. The tone was good; the scales were clean. These pianos were nothing but neatness and precision throughout. We were impressed. We had found a piano we would be happy to represent.
This was all before we found out what Pearl River pianos retail for. We could tell that they had the quality to be a market leader, but when we learned what they were supposed to sell for, we could see that they are going to be a market giant. These pianos, with all the quality they bring, retail for only slightly more than the cheapest no-name. We would be remiss in our duties were we to fail to bring a bargain like this to the community we serve.
Our next problem was, of course, how do we get these pianos. As may be obvious by now, we are a small operation: there are just the two of us and investment money is short. Pearl River manufactures at least a dozen different models, so there was no possability that we could stock them all, This is usually a requirment in becomming a dealership, and has stood in our way forever. The people at Pearl River, I am happy to say, did not take this attitude, and allowed us to start with a small sampling of their line. We appreciate their confidence, and have selected three models of upright which we feel will best meet the needs of the area.
In essence, we chose the best of "small, medium and large":
The UP108D3 is the smallest upright in the Pearl River line. At 43 inches tall, the Up108D3 is a true console piano, not a spinet. This piano is fitted with Pearl Rivers standard full-sized direct-blow action, giving it a good solid feel. The tone of this piano belies its stature, and must be heard to be apreciated. Being the smallest in the line, this piano is the most affordable option, yet still provides all the requird qualities for successful musical effort
The UP118E is the sweet spot in the Pearl River line of uprights. Models smaller than the 118, while having qualities to recommend them to particular clients, are quite close in price. And models just a little larger are significantly more expensive. Simply calculated, this is the most piano per inch per dollar. This model of piano is the best selling model of any piano made anywhere in the world. So we are not the only ones to do that math This is a good sized, good sounding, well playing piano with a price that leaves room for lessons. And again, these pianos must be experienced to realize what is available.to the artist of modest means.
The UP125M1 is Pearl River's "dark, stalking-horse" in the world piano market. Designed and produced to compete with the worlds foremost makers, this is a powerful piano, up to the challenge of any musical style. This piano is the best choice I have found for the professinal musician. And while this is one of Pearl River's most expensive uprights, the comparable piano from their closest competitor is almost twice as much Again, the price of these pianos is only their final.selling feature. Quality is what it takes to compete in a discerning market, and these are world-class pianos. The fact that they are only slightly more expensive than a generic piano just makes it that much easier for the shopping public to see their best choice. I would urge any serious musician to stop in and try this new piano, just to know what kind of quality is now available in the economy market.
NOTE: No piano, from any maker is ready to be placed in a home right out of the crate. Every piano requires detailing, and Pearl River is no different. Every Pearl River is thoroughly inspected and prepared. The Piano is tuned. the action is regulated, and the hammers are voiced before the piano is put on the floor. With this, the piano is able to convey its charm. All this takes about two days, but is indispensable if a piano is to perform as designed. Most good technicians would not consider selling a piano "right out of the box." You should not consider buying one that way.
